how to recover winload.exe corrupt or missing (0xc0000221)
It can be a hassle to always have a floppy disk around and some machines don't even have a floppy drive. To solve this one can try to add the 3rd party drivers to the recovery console installation.
- Install the Recovery Console
- Go to the %systemroot%\cmdcons
- Copy your driver raidcntr.sys to %systemroot%\cmdcons
- Make a copy of the %systemroot%\cmdcons\txtsetup.sif for backup in case something goes wrong
- Open the %systemroot%\cmdcons\txtsetup.sif with a text editor
- Search for the text "ultra66" and you should find:
ultra66.sys = 1,,,,,,3_,4,1
Make a copy of the line and place it below and change ultra.sys to raidcntr.sys :raidcntr.sys = 1,,,,,,3_,4,1
- Search again for the text "ultra66" and you should find:
PCI\VEN_105A&DEV_4D38 = "ultra66"
Now open the TXTSETUP.OEM which comes with your driver raidcntr.sys and find the Hardware Id of your controller. Ex.:[HardwareIds.scsi.raid_win200]
Create a new line under "ultra66"-line using the Hardware Id for your controller. Ex.
id = "PCI\VEN_105A&DEV_0D30&SUBSYS_4D33105A","raidcntr"PCI\VEN_105A&DEV_0D30&SUBSYS_4D33105A = "raidcntr"
- Search again for the text "ultra66" and you should find:
ultra66 = ultra66.sys,4
Make a copy of the line and change the ultra66 to raidcntr:raidcntr = raidcntr.sys,4
- Search again for the text "ultra66" and you should find:
ultra66 = "Promise Technology Inc. Ultra66 IDE Controller"
Make a copy of the line and change the text to something you like:raidcntr = "My Personal RAID Controller"
- Save the txtsetup.sif file and reboot and select the Recovery Console at the boot menu
When the system begins to POST are you able to hit F8 a few times and try to access the Recovery Screen? If so are you able to use LAST KNOWN good configuration to see if you are able to get backup and running?
If not, can you boot into Safemode from that F8 screen?
If those options aren't available, the best step would be to get your Windows Vista Recovery CD and boot to it and run the STARTUP REPAIR options.
Here is a Help and How to article about the STARTUP Recovery options.

Window Xp Tricks:Quicker Startups
Enable Quicker Startups with a Boot Defragment:
There is a way to speed up XP startup: make your system do a boot defragment, which will put all the boot files next to one another on your hard disk. When boot files are in close proximity to one another, your system will start faster.
On most systems, boot defragment should be enabled by default, but it may not be on yours, or it may have been changed inadvertently. To make sure that boot defragment is enabled on your system, run the Registry Editor [Hack #68], and go to:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Dfrg\BootOptimizeFunction
Edit the Enable string value to Y if it is not already set to Y. Exit the Registry and reboot. The next time you reboot, you'll do a boot defragment.

A Sneak Peek of Android 3.0, Honeycomb
The past few weeks have been exciting ones for the Android team: we recently released Nexus S and Android 2.3, Gingerbread, and we’ve even had some of our most popular team members take a trip to space. But we haven’t stopped buzzing with excitement: today at the Consumer Electronic Show (CES) in Las Vegas, we previewed Android 3.0, Honeycomb.Honeycomb is the next version of the Android platform, designed from the ground up for devices with larger screen sizes, particularly tablets. We’ve spent a lot of time refining the user experience in Honeycomb, and we’ve developed a brand new, truly virtual and holographic user interface. Many of Android’s existing features will really shine on Honeycomb: refined multi-tasking, elegant notifications, access to over 100,000 apps on Android Market, home screen customization with a new 3D experience and redesigned widgets that are richer and more interactive. We’ve also made some powerful upgrades to the web browser, including tabbed browsing, form auto-fill, syncing with your Google Chrome bookmarks, and incognito mode for private browsing.
Honeycomb also features the latest Google Mobile innovations including Google Maps 5 with 3D interactions and offline reliability, access to over 3 million Google eBooks, and Google Talk, which now allows you to video and voice chat with any other Google Talk enabled device (PC, tablet, etc).
Please stay tuned for more Honeycomb news from the Android team. For now, you can get a taste of Honeycomb by checking out this video.
